This guide outlines how to apply the UPM brand identity across signage systems within factory areas, entry passages, and building interiors. All UPM signs must be clear, easy to understand, and consistent in style. Their purpose is to facilitate smooth navigation upon arrival and to present a unified visual identity of UPM across the site. UPM Company logo

The UPM company logo is a key element in all signage applications, including signs, signboards, flags, and illuminated signs.

A minimum clear space around the logo is defined in the Logo section of the Design fundamentals and must be respected in all applications. This ensures the logo remains prominent and uncluttered, reinforcing a strong and consistent visual identity

Directional arrows

Directional arrows are used to indicate movement or guide users through spaces. The arrow follows a specific UPM style and is presented in the UPM Trust color. For dark backgrounds, a white version of the arrow may be used to maintain visibility.

Color variations

The primary color version is the full-color UPM company logo. On dark surfaces, the logo may be used in white to maintain visibility and contrast.

Logo composition guidelines

To ensure maximum visibility and impact always maintain a clear space (exclusion zone) around the logo. No other visual elements – such as graphics, photos, or text – should appear within this space. This clear space preserves the logo’s legibility and visual prominence.

Lit signage options

For mill sites and office buildings, signage may be illuminated. The following lighting options are available:

Backlit sign – features a backlit cut-out logo for a subtle, glowing effect.
Lightbox sign – incorporates the logo within a lightbox structure, respecting the clear space composition. Suitable for street-level use only. Can be constructed as single-sided or double-sided, depending on visibility needs.

Gate sign

UPM signs follow a clean and minimalistic design, emphasizing corporate branding with white backgrounds, green accents, and black text.

Visual specifications

The gate sign identifies UPM functions at a specific location. The UPM company logo is the most prominent visual element and must be placed at the top of the sign, as illustrated in brand guidelines. Use Mona Sans SemiBold for all business names and text.
All text should be in black for maximum contrast and readability.

Flags

Recommended formats

As flags represent UPM, they must always be kept clean and in good condition. The horizontal flag is the preferred format. Use the vertical proportions of the company logo for positioning and sizing, and center the logo horizontally.

If horizontal flags are not feasible, a vertical flag may be used – ideally within a group of flags. In this case, apply the horizontal proportions of the logo and position it at the bottom of the flag.
